The Bagel R-U-N- is for all runners: members, non-members, beginners and experienced runners. We have been doing this for quite a while now, and on any given Saturday morning you will find 10 - 15 runners gathering to run. We have beginners as well as experienced marathoners joining us. So, spread the word and come join us for a run.

We send out weekly reminders – so if you would like to be added to our e-mail list, please fill out this quick SURVEY.

Location:

An easy way to remember the rotation is:

ü       LHS has an odd number of Letters and on odd dates, we run from there.

ü       Likewise, ORMS has an even number of letters and on even dates, we run from that location.

After we had been running together for a few weeks, we took a formal poll and the majority of the runners coming, and many of the people who said they were interested in coming suggested that a simple rotation would be a positive thing.

So, we rotate where we run to give us all a little variety on the routes. We chose Liberty High School and Oklahoma Road Middle School because we have a 5K (3.1 Mile) course clearly marked on the roads around both schools.  See below for additional information on routes.

LHS is located off Highway 32, just north of its intersection with Highway 26 (Liberty Road). We gather in the parking lot nearest the concession stand/track/football field.

ORMS is located behind the McDonalds on Highway 26 (Liberty Road) on Oklahoma Road.

Why Do This?

We are all creatures of habit. Some of us prefer to run alone – and running is a great way to clear your head. At other times, it is good to get out and run with someone else. You may find that you are struggling to break through a certain pace or distance. By running with someone stronger and faster, they can help you improve. Additionally, you may be pushing yourself too hard. By coming and running with someone who may be slightly slower, this will force you to reduce your pace.

Weather Policy:

We run in the rain. We run in the snow. We prefer 60 degrees and sunny. We do not run if there is lightning and thunder. Basically, use your common sense. We had a torrential down pour one Saturday in October, and we had 8 people show up to run – and is was a refreshing way to start the day. So, regardless of the weather, if you come, there will probably be someone to run with.

Running Routes:

We have posted additional routes on the USA Track and Field website (http://www.usatf.org/routes ) and encourage you to visit that site and have an idea of what distance/which route you would like to run when you come on Saturday. Additionally, if you have a favorite route that is not posted on that site, we encourage you to take a few minutes and post it – as this is a great place to find new routes to run. Additionally, if you have a route that you run, and you are not sure of the distance, this is one way to confirm it.

As you all know, our area is blessed with beautiful topography. For this reason, not all routes are created equal. For instance, both 5K routes have at least one hill on the route. There are routes that are flatter, and there are routes that are more challenging. Once you figure out the various routes, and combinations of routes, you can get in the distance you need.

The Bagels:

Heretofore, we have been gathering after runs at the Bagel Café. They have been long-time supporters of ERR and we want to return their generosity.

Top 10 Reasons to Come to a Bagel Run:

1)       Runners are generally a happy group – it's the endorphins baby!

2)       Learn something new, and share something old – everyone has something to contribute.

3)       Run some place different.

4)       Get out of your pace-lock and run with someone faster.

5)       Heal up – run with someone slower… all of us at times need to give our bodies a little bit of a break.

6)       Run – its too easy to just phone in your Saturday run – now you know, there are people out there running, and you should be too!

7)       Meet some new people.

8)       Where else could you discuss the relative benefits of Gu verse jelly beans?

9)       This will help you get out of your training rut and work towards a new goal, whether it is running in your first 5K, or stepping up to a longer distance.

10)   Ummmm. Bagels.
