PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS &

COACHES

2008 ERR PROGRAMS

All of the Volunteers & Coaches below have day jobs. Be sure to thank them for their time and dedication to your athlete's development.

Chuck Baker - Sprints

Chuck is new to ERR this year. After a hiatus of twenty six years from running high school cross country & track, he joined ERR as a father/daughter activity with his 5 year old Sierra. With the help of his son Daniel and high school coach Gene Williams, Chuck has taken on the role of sprint coach. In the past, Chuck has been a Cub Scouts Den leader and assistant soccer coach as well as supporting youth programs at his church. Chuck, his wife Tracy and children Daniel, Hunter & Sierra have lived in Eldersburg for 10 years.

Andy Bokman - Past Head Coach and Summer Retreat Leader

Andy is a past Head Coach of ERR Youth Track, and started with the team in 2005. Unfortunately for us, Andy chose to take a better job and is now too far away to be our leader, but he still supports ERR and Track in any way he can. Andy is currently the organizer for the very successful ERR Running Retreat that is conducted each Summer. Andy is a 2001 graduate of LHS, where he was a Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track runner, earning a varsity letter in all three of those sports. Since his graduation he has worked closely with the coaches as a volunteer assistant in both Cross Country, and Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field. Andy graduated from Shepherd University in December 2006 and is an educator in Washington County.

Damon Boyle, Assistant Coach – Sprinters

Damon has coached for ERR track since its founding season. Damon was a high school athlete in football and wrestling, but believes track is key to developing an athlete's speed, endurance, and agility required for all sports. Damon says, "It's a blessing to get to know and coach your sons and daughters. And it's a joy when I open the paper and see the athletes from ERR track I've coached competing and succeeding at the high school level." This year all the Boyle children are ERR track athletes, Allison 13, Erin 11, Megan 9, and Kevin 6. The Boyle's have lived in Eldersburg since August 2000, and enjoy its rural setting yet convenient location. Damon coaches wrestling for the Warriors Wrestling club - look for sign up in September, Go Warriors! When Damon is not coaching Eldersburg's finest youth athletes, he writes software.

Dan Jones, Race Scoring and Registration

Dan Jones is a 1987 graduate of Liberty High School and has lived in Carroll County for 31 years. He has been coach of the Liberty Cross Country team for 18 years and coached the Track & Field team for 6 years. He received a BS in Social Sciences with a minor in Secondary Education from Towson State University . He currently works full time as a paramedic/firefighter for the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department. Coach Jones is Married (to Kathryn) and has two sons (twins) and a third arriving soon. Coach Jones was the 2003 Baltimore Metro Co-Coach of the year. He coached LHS to back-to-back-to-back State Championships in Cross Country (2003, 2004 & 2005). Having had several knee operations, Dan's running activities are limited, not from the years - but the mileage.   He seems to have a small part in most of ERR's activities, so you may not have noticed him, but you've probably seen him.

Pete Lester, Coach Emeritus and Summer Running Leader

Pete is the Founder and Past President of the Eldersburg Rogue Runners and first ERR Youth Track coach. He ran track competitively on the national level and was a decathlete. Pete has been a resident of Eldersburg for 8 years. Pete is a full-time employee of TBG Financial, a member of Covenant of Grace Presbyterian Church, and has two sons and a daughter that compete/have competed for area teams in Cross Country and/or Track and Field. Pete actively competed in Track & Football from the time he was 12 till he was 21. Pete is married to Christine, who if you run during the summer, she will make sure you are hydrated. Additionally, Pete is teaching Economics at Carroll Community College - as his stepping stone to a future Harvard Econ tenure.

Randy Linville, Head Coach and Throws Specialist

Randy has been our Throws (Discus and Shot) Coach since the founding year of ERR Youth Track program. He is active in Boy Scouts, Ultimate Frisbee, and supporting the ERR program, and has coached throws for a local high school. Randy is a certified Track Official, but I wouldn't ask him about anything but throws. A former Discus thrower, he says he is now throwing better than he ever did, thanks to coaching with ERR. If you want to get him talking, ask about beekeeping.

Pippa Cowen, Distance

This is Pippa's first year helping out with the ERR track program although she has enjoyed running the "Bagel" runs with the adult ERR group on Saturday mornings. Pippa has chaperoned the ERR running retreats in the past. She attended high school in New Jersey and ran the mile, and then ran XC, indoor and outdoor track for 4 years at Rutgers University (Go RU!!!!). Pippa coached XC and track for 8 years at Hillsborough High School In NJ. We're very please to have the experice that Pippa brings to the team.

Wayne Fuller, Horizontal Jumps

Wayne Fuller - I didn't know much when I joined the Navy, but that didn't stop me; so I applied the same philosophy to participating with ERR. In high school, also referred to as "ancient times" by my children, I enjoyed doing the triple jump, and with that background Randy said I was qualified to help with the team. So thank God for You Tube and high speed Internet access so I can watch jump videos for tips to train our athletes. My goal this season is threefold: 1) reinforce good sportsmanship; 2) encourage participants to have a good time; 3) and improve their jumping techniques. Feel free to challenge your kids to a jump contest - I'll be happy to measure. See you at the jump pit!

Dawn Harvatine, Vertical Jumps

Dawn has supported ERR Track for several years, and this year is a Jumps Coach for us. Dawn is the mother of three teen age boys, all of whom have either been a part of ERR Track and/or Century HS Cross Country and/or Track & Field Teams. Dawn participated in a variety of jumping, throwing and running events when she was in Junior High and High School in Pennsylvania ("a really long time ago"). In the past, Dawn has coached Freedom Boys Soccer (MSYSA 'F' license), served as a team mom many times for soccer and wrestling, has taught religious education, tutored and volunteered in Carroll County schools and has served as a Cub Scout leader for the past 9 years. She is also a University of Michigan grad (GO BLUE!) in Mechanical Engineering and works part time in software testing.

Holly Kosten, Distance

Holly Kosten has been helping with the ERR track for the past three years. She enjoyed running track and cross-country in high school in Ipswich, Massachusetts and then through her sophomore year in college at the University of Vermont. She ran the mile, 2 mile, and 880y and 4x440y in High school and the 800m in college.

Isabelle Pickett, Track General Manager

Isabelle has been with the ERR running program for several years. Daughter Liz ran four years with Liberty's Cross Country / Indoor-Outdoor. Mrs. Pickett contributes much of Liz's success to the ERR Summer Running Program. Isabelle on the other hand attributes ERR for teaching her children to run faster than the broom handle. She has always enjoyed running and in the early years used it to her advantage in dodging cars, parents, boys and the police. She continues to use her sprinting experience for chasing her children and eternal youth.

Miguel Rodriguez, Summer Running Leader

Miguel has been helping with the summer running program for the past few years. He was a powerlifter in college and was the 132lb National Collegiate champion in his junior year. After watching his daughter, Kaitlin, run for Liberty he began running with his son, Daniel. Since then he has run numerous marathons and qualified for Boston. Miguel has a black belt in Shorinjryu karate and is a neuropsychologist in private practice. His wife, Sue, is actively involved in ERR and is the current Vice President.
