This program seeks to achieve two primary goals:

1. Provide Additional opportunities for area athletes to compete in T&F
2. Encourage younger athletes to consider participating in Track & Field

Athletes work towards developing their skills in both the running and field events. Coaches will help the athletes focus their time and energy by evaluating each athlete and suggesting specific events for them to consider.

The team will train and compete in several events. Dates you will want to mark on your calendar include (these dates may change - we will update the calendar as more information comes available prior to the start of practice):

Friday, 5/12/2006 - Quadathlon (ERR Youth Team Only) : This is a fun event for all the athletes. Each athlete will participate in the 100 Meter Dash, Long Jump, Shot Put, and 800 meter Run/ The event is timed and scored, allowing each participant to assess their performance and abilities against the performances of their peers.

Sunday, 5/14/2006 - All Comers Meet at Langley High School : This is a great first meet for young athletes - low keyed, encouraging and welcoming. We are going to strongly encourage everyone to go.For young, new and even "has-been" athletes, this is like going to "A Field of Dreams." Everyone pays a flat fee and the events are run in age groups. Anyone (including parents) can participate. Would you like to see a 70 year old lady out jump a 16 year old. Go to Langley and you just might see it.

Saturday, 5/20/2006- Team Time Trials: We conduct this like a USAT&F Meet. It is for ERR Youth T&F team members only. This will help the athletes make a final decision as to what events they want to pursue in the USA T&F sanctioned meets. It will also help the coaches finalize the relay teams we plan to enter in the track meets.

Saturday, 5/27/2006- Dual Meet: Last year we competed against a team in North Carroll County . We will do this again and possibly invite another team or two to join us. It is a great way to compete and prepare for the USA T&F meets.

Saturday, 6/3/2006- USA T&F Preliminary Meet: We will encourage all our athletes to participate in this meet. If you have any desire to participate in the Association Meet, Regional Meet or National Meet, you must first qualify for those meets by performing well at this meet.

USA T&F:Races are conducted in age groups & according to gender (9 & 10 - Bantam; 11 & 12 - Midget; 13 & 14 - Youth; 15 & 16 - Intermediate; 17 & 18 - Young Men & Women).

Instruction/Coaches:

Bob Ward & Dan Jones will offer expert training advice. Collectively, they have over 22 years of coaching experience for Liberty High School . Because of state high school rules governing their involvement, several parents will also be directing workouts. Included in this group are Andy Bokman, Randy Linville, John Bassett, Gene Williams and Pete Lester. When possible, workouts will be tailored to improve each athlete's speed, endurance and strength. These workouts will be conducted in groups divided by sex and age group.

Get a Jump on the T&F Season

After last year's season, several parents asked us to consider starting practice earlier in the year so that athletes could prepare longer prior to the first important meets. Due to conflicts with other sports, access to the HS Track, ERR decided not to do this. HOWEVER:

ERR is Sponsoring several Cross Country Races at Oklahoma Road Middle School and several training runs as well. So, don't wait to start running. Come join the fun at ORMS. Races will be held on April 14 th and April 21 st . They cost $1 to enter and you can enter either the 1 Mile XC Race or the 1.5 Mile XC Race.

Volunteers:

As with any program, we need your help to make this successful. If you have coached in the past or are willing to help us in this endeavor, please let us know. We would like to offer all of the athletes as much individual attention as possible. To volunteer, please contact Mark Smith ( president@errun.org ).
