Summer Youth Track & Field Team

About The Summer Track & Field Program:

Background:

For the past three years, ERR has sponsored a Summer Youth Track & Field Team. During that time, we have had over 150 Athletes participate in the program and we continue to receive positive feedback from Parents and Athletes.

New for 2008

  • We will be scaling back a bit and compete in a few less Track & Field meets
  • These meets will be smaller
  • We will be participating in AAU rather than USAT&F
  • We are going to partner with the Excel Track Team. We hope this will:
    • Give Athletes in Carroll County more opportunities to access the expertise of the area's coaches
    • Once qualifying meets begin, we are contemplating combining a few of our relay teams so more athletes get chances to run (both teams were short a few athletes last year - in certain age groups).
    • Both clubs possess specific talents: Maynard Hurd was a National Champion in the Hurdles. We have an expertise in distance and throws that Excel does not have - we hope to help youngsters improve in their area's of interest
    • One Fee - access to both programs.

This program seeks to achieve two primary goals:

1. Provide Additional opportunities for area athletes to compete in T&F
2. Encourage younger athletes to consider participating in Track & Field

Athletes work towards developing their skills in both the running and field events. Coaches will help the athletes focus their time and energy by evaluating each athlete and suggesting specific events for them to consider.

The team will train and compete in several events. As we schedule these events, we will update this page and send out the schedule. We are still currently developing a schedule of meets in which to participate. It will be a smaller scheduloe than past years. Here is a short list of dates to keep in mind::

April 164h - First Workout

April 24th - Quadathlon at LHS

May 4th - All Comers Meet at NC HS

Get a Jump on the T&F Season

After last year's season, several parents asked us to consider starting practice earlier in the year so that athletes could prepare longer prior to the first important meets. Due to conflicts with other sports, access to the HS Track, ERR decided not to do this. HOWEVER:

Volunteers:

As with any program, we need your help to make this successful. If you have coached in the past or are willing to help us in this endeavor, please let us know. We would like to offer all of the athletes as much individual attention as possible. To volunteer, please contact Randy Linville, our Youth Programs Coordinator at Trackcoach@errun.org.
